JIM DONOVAN RETURNS TO THE BEACHLAND BALLROOM

Cleveland, Ohio – Little Fish Records announced today that Jim Donovan & the Sun King Warriors will be returning to Cleveland to perform at The Beachland Ballroom ( 15711 Waterloo Road, Cleveland, OH 44110; 216-383-1124) on Friday, April 21st along with opening acts Big Ship and Scott Stiert.  Tickets are $10 /advance; $14 / day of show.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.

Jim Donovan was a founding member of the 90’s band, Rusted Root, that sold over 3 million records to date.  He was also voted “Drum Circle Facilitator of the year” by the readers of Drum! Magazine.  He has appeared on the David Letterman and Conan O’Brien shows, and his music with the band has been featured in major motion pictures, network TV shows and allowed him to share the stage with legendary acts such as Carlos Santana, the Grateful Dead, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Sting, and the Allman Brothers among many others.  After an eleven year hiatus to help raise his family, he’s now back fronting the Sun King Warriors, a danceable, emotionally engaging groove rock group with a blend of rootsy acoustic vibes and a ton of drums.  Donovan’s debut album with the Sun King Warriors was released in 2016 and gained critical national acclaim and wide, non-commercial and AAA radio play.  The Washington Times called it “One of the most eclectic and exciting discs to come out in some time”, while Relix magazine said “Donovan channels unabashed enthusiasm into a series of songs that are both rowdy and rejuvenating.”  Sun King Warriors can best be described as a mix of Americana rock with a strong dose of tribal style drumming.  Think Led Zeppelin III and IV mixed with Rusted Root’s “When I Woke” era rhythmic intensity and the authentic vocal emotion of Mumford & Sons.    www.sunkingwarriors.com

Cleveland’s BIG SHIP will be providing support for the evening featuring jam-rock veterans “Dreadlock” Dave McDougal (Waterband) and Michael Rotman (Oroboros).  The group has an energetic, soulful style no matter what songs they play, and their tight 3-part harmonies really supplement the rhythmic grooves.  What is also unique is McDougal’s bass guitar playing, which he often plays like a lead guitar.  www.bigshipmusic.com

Opening things up for the evening will be singer/songwriter Scott Stiert, aka “Acoustic Scotty”.  Hailing from Milan, Ohio , Stiert’s sound is inspired by the stylings of such artists as James Taylor, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin and Johnny Cash to straight up Blues. Scott has been on the local music scene for the last decade. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the 3 piece band Plank Road from 2001-2011. He has since gone on to do his solo acoustic act.
